VAT Books of Accounts & VAT Return Submission

This training module equips participants with practical knowledge of VAT record-keeping and return submission requirements in Bangladesh. It combines legal understanding with hands-on exercises to help learners comply with VAT regulations accurately and efficiently. VAT Books of Accounts & VAT Return Submission

The module is structured into four classes covering VAT legal basics, VAT registers and documentation, import VAT compliance, and VAT return preparation. Participants will learn how to maintain VAT books of accounts, prepare statutory VAT registers, and analyse Bills of Entry for VAT purposes. Practical sessions focus on preparing VAT returns, calculating input and output tax, and completing online submissions. The module also highlights common errors, penalties, and compliance best practices.

Class 01 - VAT & SD Legal Framework and Basics

This class introduces the legal framework and basic concepts of VAT and Supplementary Duty in Bangladesh. Participants will gain an overview of the VAT & SD Act, 2012, VAT & SD Rules, 2016, and understand how VAT works in practice for both consumers and businesses.

Class 02 - VAT Register & Compliance

This class focuses on VAT compliance requirements and the proper maintenance of VAT books of accounts and registers. Participants will learn VAT documentation standards, VAT invoice and challan requirements, and gain practical knowledge on preparing VAT Form 6.1.

Class 03 - Import VAT Documentation and VAT Register Preparation

This class focuses on import-related VAT documentation and the proper preparation of VAT registers (VAT 6.2, VAT 6.3, VAT 6.4, VAT 6.5, VAT 6.6, VAT 6.7, VAT 6.8, VAT 6.10, etc.) based on the Bill of Entry. Participants will learn duty calculation, costing elements, practical preparation of VAT registers, and penalties for non-compliance with VAT record-keeping requirements.

Class 04 - VAT Return

This session covers the VAT return process in detail, including statutory timelines, required information, and penalty provisions. It explains VAT Return Form 9.1, input tax credit, output tax, adjustments, and includes hands-on practice in preparing and submitting VAT returns both online and offline.

The VAT Books of Accounts & VAT Return Submission training module is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of VAT compliance requirements in Bangladesh. This course explains the legal framework of VAT and Supplementary Duty under the VAT & SD Act, 2012 and VAT & SD Rules, 2016. Participants will learn how VAT operates in practice, including the VAT cycle and its impact on businesses and consumers.

 

The module places strong emphasis on proper maintenance of VAT books of accounts and statutory VAT registers. Learners will gain detailed knowledge of VAT documentation, invoicing, and challan requirements applicable to businesses. Import-related VAT compliance is covered through practical understanding of the Bill of Entry, duty calculation, and costing elements. The course also includes hands-on preparation of relevant VAT registers based on import and local transactions.

 

Participants will learn how to prepare VAT returns accurately using VAT Return Form 9.1. Practical sessions cover sales and purchase reporting, input tax credit adjustments, output tax calculation, and payable VAT determination. Online VAT return submission and common compliance mistakes are also discussed. By the end of the training, participants will be confident in maintaining VAT records and submitting VAT returns in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Facilitator – Ripon Bhowmik FCA, ITP, VAT Consultant

Mr. Bhowmik, is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and a qualified VAT Consultant with over 12 years of professional experience in tax, VAT, customs, accounts, finance, and audit. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in June 2019 after beginning his professional journey in 2014. His career includes managerial roles at reputed CA firms and a senior leadership position at a multinational company, where he led tax, VAT, customs, and BEZA-related compliance.

Currently, he serves as AGM – Accounts at Transcom Group, overseeing finance, accounts, import, tax, VAT and internal audit operations. He has conducted numerous training sessions at leading universities and professional institutes, reflecting his strong commitment to practical learning and professional excellence.
